Storage: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Self-Storage and How Does it Work?
RightSpace Storage is a self-service storage company that provides a variety of storage unit sizes and types available to the public for personal, business, and recreational storage use. If you're looking to clear up some much needed space at home or finding yourself with limited to no space to hold much needed business items, RightSpace Storage is for you. We offer clean, secure storage solutions at competitive prices.
What Size Unit Can I Rent?
If the storage size you need is available at one of our facilities and you can provide a valid I.D. and payment method, you can rent it. If you have questions regarding which size is right for you, please review our storage unit size guide to find exactly the storage space you need. If you have any additional questions regarding unit sizes, storage types, or prices, please don't hesitate to contact one of our storage consultants at any one of our facilities (preferably one close to you). Or drop by one of our local storage facilities and ask for a tour!
Ok, I Can Rent, But Who Else Has Access to my Storage Unit?
The unit you rent is secured with your lock and your key - only you can decide who has access to your unit and who doesn't. It's our policy to never give anyone who isn't on your rental agreement access. We feel this only adds to the security of your items. However, you are free to divulge your unit number, key, and gate-code access to anyone of your choosing as long as you're comfortable with them accessing your unit. You can also fill out an Authorized User Privileges form, which gives us permission to give access to anyone included on your list. If you'd like to remove anyone included on this list, you must do so in writing.
Indoor Storage, Drive-Up Storage, Climate Control etc. What's The Difference?
All of our facilities offer unique storage sizes and types. Common unit types include:
- Climate Controlled Units: This type of storage is perfect for items sensitive to fluctuating temperatures. These units never dip lower than 65 degrees or higher than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. While slightly more expensive than using indoor or outdoor units, the few dollars you spend in extra rent could save you thousands of dollars in damage down the road. Common items susceptible to hot and cold weather include: wooden furniture, books and comics, electronics, antiques, vintage drum kits and other older, valuable instruments, artwork, wine, and other items. If you're unsure about the type of storage you need, call one of our facilities. Our storage consultants are on stand-by to make sure you find the RightSpace at the right price.
- Indoor Storage Units: Indoor units are housed inside a one, two, or three story building, offering less exposure to harsh elements. Units are accessible via industrial elevators and facilities often have push-carts and dollies to help you move larger items. However, this storage type is not to be confused with units that offer climate control. Indoor storage provides protection from extreme temperatures while falling just shy of the stability offered by climate control.
- Drive-Up Storage Units: Drive-up storage is perfect for those looking for quick, easy access to their items. Drive straight up to your unit, park, unload, and take off (or hang out). Our roll-up doors make accessing your unit a breeze and save space unlike their swinging-door counterparts. While this is often the most convenient method of storage, it offers slightly less protection from the elements than indoor and climate controlled storage. However, Drive-Up is easily the most popular form of storage, mostly for it's quick access and nonetheless great protection from water, pests, dirt, and other unwanted nuisances. Just because it doesn't have the level of temperature control offered by other storage types doesn't mean it's any less secure, clean, and reliable.
How Long Can I Rent a Unit?
Rent your unit for as long (or short) as you need! We offer month-to-month leases and bill in one-month increments. Our goal is to make your storage experience as simple and easy as possible. We just require a 10 day notice to vacate.
Can I Rent a Unit Over The Phone or Online?
You may reserve a storage unit over the phone or online, but the only way to complete the rental agreement is in person at one of our facilities. This is for your protection as well as the protection of others.
Are My Items Insured While Being Storage At Your Facility?
Insurance for your items is a requirement for RightSpace facilities. Renting a storage unit is similar to renting an apartment. The same way your landlord doesn't insure your personal belongings, RightSpace doesn't insure your items either. However, we do offer an excellent Property Protection program that satisfies the lease requirement, for just $12 a month! Please note: if you have homeowner's or renter's insurance, your property may be covered, but you should double-check with your agent.
What Forms of Payment do You Accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, checks and money orders. We also accept payments online once you are a tenant. You can also sign up for auto-pay by signing up in-store or calling your leasing office for more information.
Account FAQs
Can I Pay Over the Phone With a Credit Card?
You can pay over the phone with a credit card, but you must fill out an authorized phone payment form. OR, you can pay online!
When is my Payment Due?
Everyone's due date is different. Your due date is the same day of the month you moved in. So if you moved in on the 15th of the month, your next bill will be due on the 15th of the following month.
I'm Ready to Move Out of my Unit - Do You Require Notice?
Yes. We require a 10 day notice - in writing - before your next billing date.
I Can't Find the Key to my Unit - What Can I do?
One of our storage consultants can cut the lock for you. For reasons we hope you understand, we do not allow bolt cutters on the property. Please keep in mind, if you do try to cut your own luck, you may damage the slide-bolt and door, both of which you will be liable for.
Do You Pro-Rate My Final Month?
As a general rule, we do not offer pro-rated billing. However, rare exceptions can be made if you need your unit for an extra day or two and you have made arrangements in advance with your store manager. If you have any questions regarding your unit and rental agreement, please don't hesitate to speak to the manager. We strive to achieve the best customer experience possible. One way we can achieve this is by having an open dialogue with management!
